IRON MAN 3: Undeniably Entertaining

IRON MAN 3: Undeniably Entertaining
I was invited to the movie screening of Iron Man 3 earlier today. I must admit I was really excited that even if I was expecting to be invited by another sponsor, I readily accepted this particular invitation so I can brag to my kuya that I am one of the lucky ones who were able to watch Iron Man 3 on its first day of showing at the cinema. Ha ha ha! Joke!

And because we live in a far away place in Quezon City we had to leave our house two hours earlier than our appointed time. But we got stuck in traffic. We decided to take a cab so we can reach Eastwood cinema on time. Much to our dismay, there are two separate cinemas at Eastwood and we happened to go to the wrong one. My bad! They ought to give us the complete details days before the actual movie date so as to avoid unnecessary confusion. But it was not the fault of the one who invited us. The sponsors should have notified him about the correct information several days beforehand.

To make the long story short, the correct place was .... tsan traan....the cinema 5 of Eastwood Mall.  Upon reaching Cinema 5, we frantically asked for the person in charge. After some time we were finally allowed inside the cinema with no tickets sigh, does it mean somebody used our slots?
Anyway, let's move on. It is a fact that millions, if not billions, of people around the world are fans of the Iron Man movies. Just like you, I definitely expect more action in the third series of Iron Man 3!

When Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution. Yeah, after a malevolent enemy reduces his world to rubble, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) must rely on his instincts and ingenuity to protect those he loves as he searches for a way to avenge his losses. No one can take away innate talent.

Since our time was practically wasted trying to find the correct cinema and asking for the person in charge we were not able to see the beginning of the movie ( sob!) but according to some of my friends, the movie  started and dragged on to establish the background for the other two characters: Aldrich Killian (played by Guy Pearce) and Maya Hansen (played by Rebecca Hall). For me, it was unnecessary to establish the two characters. In my humble opinion, the movie was too long at 129 minutes for an action movie.

Beginning on the part that we saw,  it was not as fast paced for an action superhero movie.  Its saving grace is when it started to pick-up and became more exciting at the latter part of the movie.  Tony Stark has so many troubles, so many foibles making it tailored fit with Downey.

Flammable humans are one of the elements here as it provokes memories of vaguely cheesy werewolf eyes and Dr. Phibes-like flesh effects. Pepper's constant complaining about Tony not being there for her also strikes somewhat old-fashioned neglected mate notes but, otherwise, Black and Pearce devote themselves, more with success than not, to generating surprise, injecting wit into rote situations and outfitting the franchise with a sharp new set of attitudes, not to mention outfits.

After watching the movie, I stop and think for a while. I asked myself - What if I was in Tony Stark's shoes? He has everything! Looks, talent, fame, money, the woman he loves, everything. Looking out from the huge plate-glass window at the world. What’s really going on in his head? All the resources in the world at his disposal. A lot of people would want to trade places with Tony Stark.  Stark is a kind of guy who maintains a conscience even though he essentially has everything already. He still hold himself responsible to help mankind.

It's undeniably entertaining - and worth seeing. Overall, the story was good. Since I am an Iron Man fanatic, I had this urge to watch it again, maybe in 3D next time around.

Overall, I rate the movie 4 stars out of 5 stars. For me, it was a spectacular movie so don't you dare miss it. Please watch Iron Man 3 in theater near you!  Don't buy those pirated DVD's because, aside from killing the movie industry, those cheap DVD's don't match the pleasure of watching movies on the big screen!                         .

Directed by Shane Black. With Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Don Cheadle.

ORO PLATA MATA: OPENS 2012 CINEMA ONE ORIGINALS FESTIVAL

ORO PLATA MATA: OPENS 2012 CINEMA ONE ORIGINALS FESTIVAL

I had the pleasure and honor to witness the restored version of Filipino classic 1982 multi awarded film Oro, Plata, Mata by Peque Gallaga at this year’s opening of CinemaOne Channel Originals Film Festival held at the Robinsons Galleria Movie World last November 28, 2012, upon the invitation of Ms. Kathy Solis, PR manager of ABS-CBN. Thank you so much Ms. Kathy.

Oro, Plata, Mata is written by Jose Javier Reyes. Cinematography by acclaimed cinematographer Rody Lacap. This 1982 multi-awarded Filipino film is considered Peque Gallaga's most significant contribution to the Philippine cinema. Set in Negros during World War II, it tells the story of how the rich haciendero families cope with the horror and changes brought about by the war.
I asked our neighbor Tita Au what does Oro, Plata, Mata stands for, and here is her answer:
"Ginto, Pilak at Karma"  in English that would be "Gold, Silver, Bad Luck" but sometimes they equate bad karma to death.

I was also informed by a friend that Oro, Plata, Mata also refers to an old Filipino architectural superstition saying that design elements in a house staircases should not end in a multiple of three, in keeping with a pattern of oro (gold), plata (silver), and mata (bad luck).
Oro, Plata, Mata the movie is structured in three parts, it depict the pattern played out in the lives of the main characters, from a life of luxury and comfort in the city ("oro/gold"), to a still-luxurious time of refuge in a provincial hacienda ("plata/silver"), and finally to a retreat deeper into the mountains, where they are victimized by bandit guerillas ("mata/bad luck") lead by one their former trusted servant, who did not only robbed and turned against his former masters.

The twists and turns of the movie will hook you to the screen and keep you at the edge-of-your-seat. Oro, Plata, Mata film blows the audience mind. The mysteries and plot details that beg questioning will mount the more you analyze it. Oro, Plata, Mata is the kind of the film that will demand a second viewing just to see if your mind is equally blown the second time around.

I was awed on how Cherry Gil and Sandy Andolong maintained their beauty. Imagine it's been thirty (30) years since they made this film and yet they look the same until now.

Cast of Characters:
Cherie Gil as Trinidad "Trining" Ojeda
Sandy Andolong as Margarita "Maggie" Ojeda

Joel Torre as Miguel Lorenzo
Liza Lorena as Nena Ojeda
Fides Cuyugan-Asencio as Inday Lorenzo

Maya Valdez as Jo Russell
Lorli Villanueva as Viring Ravillo

Manny Ojeda as Don Claudio Ojeda
Ronnie Lazaro as Hermes Mercurio
Abbo de la Cruz as Melchor
Jaime Fabregas as Minggoy
Robert Antonio as Carlos Placido
Agustin Gatia as Lucio
Kuh Ledesma as a diwata
Manny Castaneda as a rich heir
Mary Walter as yaya

Oro, Plata, Mata won the 1982 Gawad Urian awards for

  • Best picture
  • Best direction
  • Best cinematography
  • Best production design
  • Best musical score
  • Best sound.
In the same year, it won the Luna Awards of the Film Academy of the Philippines for Production Design and for Best Supporting Actress (Liza Lorena).

Oro, Plata, Mata movie marks the first showing of the restored versions of old films. The restoration was made possible through a partnership between ABS-CBN Film Archives headed by Leo Katigbak and Central Digital Lab, Inc. It is the second film restored after Ishmael Bernal’s “Himala” in time for its 30th anniversary.

Please don't fail to catch this timeless classic from November 28 to December 9, 2012 at Robinson’s Galleria Movie World and from November 29 to December 4, 2012 at the Edsa Shangri-La Cineplex.

The festival’s much awaited awards night will be held on December 3 at the Studio 1, ABS-CBN Main Building.
The 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival is an annual project of the Cinema One, the local movie channel on cable, owned and operated by Creative Programs, Inc (CPI).

Biktima is one of the movies I want to watch. This new upcoming drama/thriller movie stars Angel Aquino, Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz.

Six months later, a woman is found in a rural area. After a detective (Ricky Davao) investigates the case, the personwas identified as Alice de la Cruz and she is found alive. Not having any memory of what happened to her , Alice only remembers up to the part where she was ambushed.

When Mark learns of this, he was conflicted. He has moved on believing Alice died. But he knew it will be best to get together with Alice for the sake of their son, Buboy.

Mark and Alice reunite.

Alice begins to remember pieces of what happened her. But due to the trauma of her experience, psychological reactions to her past manifest in her present life. BAYANI AGBAYANI: Bayani Ang Tatay Ko

Funny man Bayani Agbayani stars in “Bayani Ang Tatay Ko" an Indie Film about life and struggles produced by M&N Film.

Filipinos are known worldwide for having positive attitude in handling difficulties in life. Filipinos tackle problems with a smile. I remember during "Ondoy" those people with water up to their neck and yet you can see them smiling despite being struck with the wrath of nature.
We Filipinos spend our life’s most vivid moments with the people we love. Bayani Ang Tatay Ko does not only wishes to instill family values but also provides entertainment and at the same time honor the law enforcers.

Actor-comedian and host Bayani Agbayani plays SPO3 Nicanor Corpuz , a decorated cop, loving dad and husband to his wife Susan played by Yayo Aguila, and son, Adrian played by child actor Yogo Singh. They live a simple, happy life until an incident took their lives on a different turn. One morning while in the police detachment where he is working, Taning played by Rommel Montano, a toughie from an influential family came looking for his colleague, SPO1 Joey Ponce. Ponce apparently shut down his illegal “videokarera” business and refused to accept a bribe, making the latter furious. Taning was scandalizing the station so he took a policewoman, SPO2 Pinky Madrigal hostage prompting Nick to defend his colleague.

Nick was suspended from service and he turned to selling “isaw” to make ends meet. Failing to do so, his wife Susan decided to go to Hongkong to work as a domestic helper. To help him in his business, Susan sent his brother, Ading played by Gene Padilla to help Nick tend to the isaw business. But the former cop realized that he is not cut for business, so he asked for his ninong, Col. Roberto Ugarte to give him an assignment. Colonel Ugarte referred him to the city hall where he worked as a traffic enforcer. As a traffic enforcer, Nick has learned to be happy with his new job because he wears a uniform and arrests violators. It was at this time when he was informed that his colleague, Ponce has remained missing since the precinct incident; SPO1 Fernandez had been looking for him. Worse, his wife Susan called to tell him she was victimized by an illegal recruiter.

All these tribulations that had happened to Nick and his family occurred very untimely. Witness how will a typical Filipino family face these challenges in a comedic and a bit of dramatic way with a sting of action to highlight the story.

Joining the lead stars are actor/model and ex-PBB housemate, Johann Santos, Ms. Jet Claveria, Butch Elizalde, Pinoy T.A.L.K. host Paul Quimbo, Ms. Jing Javier and Paulo Ponce and is under the helm of Ellen Argano.  “Bayani...Ang Tatay Ko...” is one of the official entries to the 2nd PNP Film Festival and subsequently, the awarding will take place at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on August 7, 2012.

Being a policeman is indeed a noble profession. As we all know, it is both a difficult and extensive task to be on call for the continuous protection of the public and their property as well and maintain law and order. Preventing crime, reducing fear and ensuring the improvement of every citizen’s quality of life are no way an easy job. So let us all salute our officers. Yes. the all-time “bayani” of every community.

“Bayani...Ang Tatay Ko...” will have its premiere showing on August 5, 2012, Sunday at SM North Edsa Cinema 5, 5:00- 6:30 PM. Please be guided for further announcements and updates of the movie’s scheduled screenings in various theaters nationwide. For the movie's block screening and sponsorship matters, please contact Ms. Nanette or Grace at these numbers: 425-1658 and 0915-8170505

MAN OF STEEL 2013

All I can say is Wow! I can’t wait for this movie to come out in the cinemas! The Man of Steel is scheduled to come out in 2013.

Henry Cavill plays the title role in the Man of Steel. Several pictures of Henry Cavill have just surfaced online.

Look at his suit! It looks like rubber! Unlike the previous Superman up to Brandon Routh who wears spandex
You could note that there is no red shorts outerwear in Henry Cavill's new and innovative costume. The balls print out easily. A lot of women and gay would be so happy with this news! Below are some more images of the new Man of Steel in action. Cool! Smile and Enjoy!

BATMAN: The Dark Knight Rises

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive.

Getting the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good.

For a time being, the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda.
Anne Hathaway reinvents Selina Kyla aka Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.
