Misunderstanding: Maling Akala

Misunderstanding: Maling Akala

Not only the entire ability to think rests on language... but language is also the crux of the misunderstanding of reason with itself. - Johann Georg Hamann

Last night, I got to know a couple of people and I am thankful that I met them. They're a cool bunch.  Special thank you for a fantastic dinner to Ana, Eric, Mitch, Nico  and Nathalie.

I have not had a good laugh in a while because of a lot of things.  But last night, I was blessed to have the grace to meet a set of wonderful people. During dinner, we really had a good laugh, thanks to Nathalie and the rest of the guys.  Nathalie, who used to be a radio showbiz anchor, is a registered nurse. She relates this story to us :

Back when she's in college, her teacher asked her a question which she heard as: "Are you in drugs?" Raising her voice more than the normal tone with her chin up, arms on her hips Nathalie
promptly answered : "Of course not!

The teacher asked her to leave the classroom. She 's mad at her teacher. "How dare her teacher accused her that she's into drugs!," she murmured as she hurriedly took her things and left the classroom.

After the class, some of her classmates found her sulking outside. They approached her and asked her why she raised her voice and answered back their teacher. Still mad, she blurted out: " How dare her accuse me of taking drugs! I am not a drug addict".  Her classmates almost die laughing. It turned out, her teacher asked her this question: " Nathalie, are you with us?" but she misunderstood and heard it as: " Nathalie are you in drugs?"

Ha ha ha! Nathalie you're the bomb! Wooooot!

Misunderstanding is defined by Mr. Webster as a failure to understand something correctly. Human as we are, we are prone to misunderstood things.

This reminds me of Brownman Revival's song  entitled "Maling Akala". The lyrics goes like this:

May mga kumakalat na balita

Na ang misis ni kuwan ay madaling makuha
Bago maniwala, mag-isip-isip ka muna
Marami ang namamatay sa maling akala

Nung ako’y musmos pa lamang ay takot sa multo
Nung ako’y naging binata, sa erpat ng syota ko
Ngayon ay may asawa, meron nang pamilya
Wala ngang multo ngunit takot sa asawa ko

[refrain]
Di mo na kailangan mag-alinlangan
Kung tama ang gagawin mo
Basta’t huwag kalimutang magdahan-dahan
Kung di sigurado sa kalalabasan
Kalalabasan ng binabalak mo

[chorus]
Maliit na butas lumalaki
Konting gusot, dumadami (gumagrabe)

[repeat refrain]
[repeat chorus]
May mga kumakalat na balita
Na ang kaligtasa’y madaling makuha
Bago maniwala mag-isip-isip ka muna
Marami ang namamatay ahh…
Sa maling akala

Sa maling akala… (Oh yeah) [repeat 4x]
[repeat chorus except last line]
Kapag nabulag ka, hah… ng maling akala.

Maliit na butas lumalaki, kunting gusot, bino blow out of proportion, very Pinoy indeed. Maybe you already heard about the term uzi ( usisero/ra). Aside from being uzi some pinoys are also sawsawero/ sawsawera, we have this habit of giving our opinion even when we don't know the person involved or the true story behind the brouhaha. Yet again, we always end up giving our unsolicited opinion. Please don't misunderstand me, there are a lot of pinoys also who don't care and don't meddle with someone else's affair especially if it doesn't concern them. They remain silent.

Some people give opinion and sing a different tune in front of everyone else. Maybe to safeguard his/her secret. They lambast other people privately and praise and like them publicly. Maybe they are not aware that what they do is gossip and slander.

Sabagay, we are all guilty of this, one degree or another. It has become a bad habit and an ongoing problem.

Crissa Digital Dance Synergy : The First Nationwide Girl Invasion

Crissa Digital Dance Synergy : The First Nationwide Girl Invasion

The First Nationwide Girl Invasion was held yesterday, November 24, 2012 at SM MOA Music Hall. In its search for the hottest all-girl dance crew this year, Crissa traveled to Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Teams were invited to upload their video entries on Crissa Jeans' Facebook fan page. Out of 150 teams who auditioned, only 46 made it to the semi-finals. But in the end, only 8 high school teams and 15 college teams were chosen to compete in the final showdown. Hosted by Chino Lui Pio.

In their most fashionably fun outfits, the 23 teams set the place on fire with their electrifying dance moves. From right, left and center, heads turned as the girls moved across the floor showcasing their skills and style. It was a nonstop party as the crowds cheered for their favorite teams and danced to the beat. Guest performances were given by Someday Dreamer, Kit Thompson and Bb. Pilipinas - Ms. International, Krista Kleiner who opened the show with the Crissa theme song.

After an intense battle, the judges had decided. The title of 2nd runner up was awarded to Saint Pedro Poveda (High School) and La Salle Dance Company ( College), taking home Php 50,000 each. While 1st runner up went to Miriam College (High School) and UPLB Street Jazz (College), with Php 75,000 each. It was Colegio de Sta. Rosa (High School) and Adamson Cast (College) who emerged as Grand Champions taking home Php 150,000 cash prize, a fashion spread in meg magazine and best of all, the pride of being the hottest all-girl dance crew in the nation.
Crissa Digital Dance Synergy, now on its seventh year, is the only DepEd and CHED accredited all-girl dance competition. At its heart is the promotion of creativity through fashion and camaraderie through dance. This event was supported by SkinWhite, Kotex and BonChon Chicken and was covered by Crissa Jeans' official media partners, Focus Media and meg magazine.
