MMDA TO IMPLEMENT TRUCK BAN FROM MAY 2 TO 5, 2012

Daytime truck ban ng : May 2-5, 2012; 4:00 am-9:00 pm

MMDA to enforce temporary daytime truck ban during ADB meet from May 2 to 5

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will implement a temporary daytime truck ban during the 45th Asian Development Bank (ADB) meeting from May 2 to 5.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the traffic scheme is aimed at decongesting Metro Manila's major thoroughfares during the four-day international conference.

Based on initial agreements with various truckers associations, the temporary modified truck ban hours are 4 am to 9 pm, from May 2 to 5.

During this period, the implementation of the MMDA's uniform truck ban which is 6 to 9 am and 5 to 9 pm except Sundays and holidays, will be suspended. The agency will resume the enforcement of the original truck ban starting May 6.

The daytime truck ban covers all large cargo and delivery trucks as provided by MMDA Resolution No. 07-05 Series of 2007.

Trucks that haul perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, sea foods, and ice, are exempted from the temporary day time truck ban provided they will not pass through the routes to be used by ADB delegates.

Tolentino promised to coordinate with the local governments of Pasig City, Quezon City, Taguig and Pateros to extend leniency and designate parking areas for trucks that would be effectively grounded during the modified truck ban hours.

The City of Manila, venue for most of the ADB activities, pledged to increase mobile patrol units to deter criminal elements who may attempt to sabotage the trucks during the 9pm to 4 am window hours.

The MMDA also promised to coordinate with the Philippine Ports Authority and the banking sector to allow the truckers to maximize operations and e-banking transactions for the days leading up to the May 2 to 5 period.

The 45th ADB Board of Governors Annual Meeting will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

About 4,000 local and foreign delegates, finance ministers, central bank governors, representatives from international organizations and private sector are expected to participate in the event.

"The country stands to gain a lot in economic terms if the hosting of this event proves to be a success, that's why we are doing our best to make the delegates' stay in the country comfortable and fruitful," Tolentino said.

Cargo truck operators have expressed support to the modified truck ban but asked MMDA to work out a way to secure their trucks and precious cargo against criminal elements such as hijackers.

The truckers' association said their trucks will have to be parked somewhere while the daytime truck ban is in effect, making them vulnerable to hijackers and robbers.

Tolentino said he will coordinate it with the Philippine National Police (PNP). He also agreed to provide leniency to parked trucks as long as they do not obstruct traffic flow.

"We will extend to them all necessary assistance while the temporary modified truck ban is being implemented," the MMDA chief said, adding that it is not the objective of the MMDA to disrupt the business operations of cargo and delivery trucks.

Tolentino thanked the leaders and representatives of the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines, the Philippine Ports Authority, the Integrated North harbor Truckers Association, the Asia Cargo Container Line, Inc., the Philppine Liners Shipping Association, the Purt Users Confederation, the Philppine Automotive Federation, Inc., Air 21, the Confederation of truckers Association of the Philippines for their pledge of cooperation. "We could not do this without you," he said. #mmda                            -SOURCE MMDA

MIRIAM QUIAMBAO'S CONTROVERSIAL TWEETS

Former beauty queen Miriam Quiambao apologized to the the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community on Sunday after a Twitter war erupted over her comments about homosexuality. "I'm sorry LGBT. Perhaps I was too harsh with the words I used. Will do my best to be more sensitive. #respect #nobodysperfect," she said late on Sunday in her official Twitter.
Quiambao found herself in the hot seat after she aired her opinions about the LGBT community on the Saturday episode of “The Bottomline.” Quiambao, who was among the guest panelists on the Boy Abunda-hosted program, gave her take on the issue of religion and its relationship with LGBTs. “I’m not a pastor, I’m definitely not an expert but the way I understand it is homosexuality is not the one that makes you a sinner. Actually, sexual immorality is what makes you a sinner,” Quiambao said.

She further elaborated this view in her Twitter account, saying it should be the sin that should be hated and not the sinner. “Hate the sin. Love the sinner. We have all sinned... Forgiveness comes from God. Grace comes to those who believe. Peace,” she tweeted. “Homosexuality is not a sin but it is a lie from the devil. Do not be deceived. God loves gays and wants them to know the truth,” she added.

This, however, drew a lot of negative reactions from netizens. “Most, if not all, homosexuals know wrong from right. So don't say that we are gay because the devil dictated it to us,” said JoiJoifulness. As for MOSHreyes, he said: “Wow I didn't think @miriamq is a homophobe! She thinks were blinded by the truth. You're the one who's blinded gurl welcome to the 21st century!” Twitter user @dbostik also said: “@miriamq I've been trying to come into terms with my religion and now I feel like I'm back to square one since I look up to you. NEVERMIND!” “After watching "Bottomline" I feel sorry for you @miriamq. Alamin mo muna ang at tama at totoo bago ka manghusga ng buhay ng iba,” @Homerspirit posted.

While several netizens don’t agree with what Quiambao said, there were also a number of people on Twitter who were supportive of the beauty queen. Twitter user @terriyaKBoy said: “@miriamq is one hot topic in the gay world right now. Simmer down now, Gurlzzz! She's entitled to her own opinion/say.” @tjbrewed, on the other hand, said “Im so happy to see @miriamq in #Bottomline last nyt. Ppl will say 'don't bring religion,' but wer not bringing any religion but Christ alone.” As for @samuraix23, he said: “@miriamq just finished watching Bottomline about LGBT. Kudos for standing up for the Truth! May God continue to bless u!”

At the end of the show, Quiambao stressed that she is not against LGBTs because everyone is equal in the eyes of God. “God made us all for a purpose. I don’t understand why God made him that way. I feel though that in my knowledge of God, God never makes mistakes and He is not a liar. So however He made him, that’s who he really is,” she said. “However, because God has allowed this to happen in his life, perhaps there is a purpose and at the end of the day, he will be the one to face God,” Quiambao added.

Quiambao also said she never meant to offend anyone with her tweets. “No offense to the LGBT but the Truth is the Truth that comes from God. Take it or leave it. We will all face the judgement seat of God,” she said. “Mahal ko ang LGBT. That's why I am sharing with you the truth. If you are not ready for it, please don't shoot me. I am just a messenger,” explained the beauty queen.

Conquering Mt. APO Agco-Kidapawan trail in Davao City

Conquering Mt. APO's Agco-Kidapawan trail in Davao City.
"Somewhere between the bottom of the climb and the summit is the answer to the mystery why we climb "
I would like to present to you my kababayan Lily Arlos. This is her story. And I feel honored that she gave me the go signal to share this story with all of you.

Meet Lily Arlos in full gear just before the two-day climb to the peak of Mt. Apo. Yes, she is so ready for the climb.
Lily Arlos is gutsy. Look at her latest conquest in Davao! Can you beat that?
 Lily with a yellow phyton.

Lily narrated this: Agco kidapawan trail kami.
On the way up the mountain, they saw a group of Manobo children with make-up on their faces.

Iba! Hindi ko ma-explain ang feeling. Sabi nga "Somewhere between the bottom of the climb and the summit is the answer to the mystery why we climb and only through suffering can we find ourselves."

Lily: He he. Until now wala akong preparation kapag may upcoming climb.

At the summit of Mt. Apo

Top of the world.
They managed a smile kahit sobra na silang pagod sa two days na climb na halos walang tulog.

The view from the summit. Ka level mo na ang clouds!
Lily at the summit.

Lily Arlos at Mt. Apo, Davao City. Nakuha nila ng two days ang dapat ay three days na climb.

Congrats Lily!
Despite the difficulty of the climb, nothing compares with the happiness that we feel when we conquer a mountain.- Lily Arlos
