SHANG CINEPLEX: Free Movies Schedule

SHANG CINEPLEX: Free Movies Schedule

Want to relax but doesn't have the money to pay for a movie pass? Worry no more! You can now watch movies for free. Last January 22, 2013 I wrote about the Free Movies in Shangri-La Edsa sponsored by Shangri-La Plaza together with ADMU's Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies & Confucius Institute, Credit Suisse and Ateneo Celadon present cinephiles' most awaited 2013 Spring Film Festival from February 1 to 10, 2013 at the Shang Cineplex with free admission!
The Movies

  • Piano in a Factory: A man goes to unusual lengths to prove his love for his daughter in this family drama. Chen Guilin is a man who loves music and plays accordion in an amateur band, but Chen can’t support himself on what he makes as a musician, and his job in a steel mill isn’t about to make him rich. Now his wife, Xiao Ju, returns home to file a formal divorce, as well as custody of their daughter. To retain his daughter, he must give her a piano. Chen exhausts all means: borrowing money from his friends and even attempting to steal a piano, but all his attempts fail. Despite these challenges, Chen always maintains an optimistic outlook. Finally, he decides to produce a steel piano with his friends.
  • Storm Warriors: An epic battle is played out by warriors harnessing the power of the elements in this effects-laden fantasy /action drama Hong Kong film. The brave Lord Nameless is the leader of a band of heroic warriors. Lord Godless, his nemesis, captures Nameless in a daring raid, imprisons his soldiers and takes control of his land. As things look hopeless, three of Nameless's allies set out to free him: Cloud (Aaron Kwok), Wind (Ekin Cheng) and Chu Chu (Yan Tang). As Cloud absorbs what he's learned from Nameless and Wind is tutored in combat by Wicked, can they fend off Godless and his cronies?
  • Golden Times: Fueling China’s economic boom is the mass migration of workers from the countryside to cities. This leaves a special population of 58 million ‘left-behind children’ in the care of their old, and mostly illiterate grandparents. What should have been carefree years for these children can only be characterized by weariness from studying and burdensome farm work. Teacher Fang and police officer Sun Dayang realize that the affections and instructions of parents during the early years are irreplaceable. Getting support from the local government, they set up a “Home for Left-Behind Children,” which helps the kids from this population attain a healthy and loving environment in the hands of the community.
  • Jasmine Women: Starring Zhang Ziyi (House of Flying Daggers), Joan Chen and Jiang Wen, Jasmine Women tells the story of one family's struggle to overcome its tragic history, as each daughter repeats the mistakes of her mother. Director Hou Yong sets his film in the 1930's, 50's and 80's against the backdrop of an ever-changing Shanghai and tells the stories of Mo, Li and Hua, which when translated to English together means Jasmine Flower.
  • 2Become1: Bingo Leung, an advertising executive, has always lived a carefree life that includes guarding her turf in the office, dating, and gossiping with her three girlfriends. One day, she finds a lump in her left breast. Everything begins to fall apart as she tries to cope with the loss of femininity in a series of bittersweet events. With the help of a happy-go-lucky Doctor V and a shy but talented teenager Sing, Bingo begins to find new meanings in her turmoil and the will to face her own demons.
  • Space Dream: The son of a peasant family, Zhang Tiancong (Liu Zhibing) is a veteran member of the first generation of Chinese astronauts but, now in his 40s, has yet to be selected for a space mission. Meanwhile, his family, including his daughter and ace military pilot Siyu (Jiang Ruijia), continues to support his quickly fading dream. Tiancong’s last shot is a mission is of exceptional importance; it involves docking spaceship Wentian I with a satellite to establish China's first manned orbital space station. Will Tiancong get picked to pilot Wentian I and finally realize his space dream? Or will he be stuck on backup duty again?

LOVE: Wating for you for a thousand Years

LOVE: Wating for you for a thousand Years

Last year everybody went gaga over the song: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. Yes, that beautiful song at the Twilight movie. Every Jane and John swoon over the song. A lot of people thought it was Taylor Swift who sang that song.  I believe the song will sound better if Taylor Swift would cover the song.

Since Valentine's day is just around the corner, I decided to share with you guys a YouTube video where the owner change the pitch and made it appear that Taylor Swift is the one singing A thousand years. I like it better than the original song,Though this is still Christina Perrie's voice, it sounded different because of the adjustment in the pitch department by the uploader of the video.

Advance Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Enjoy!

SOLENN HEUSSAFF:Nude at Esquire Magazine Cover

SOLENN HEUSSAFF: Nude at Esquire Magazine Cover

Do you agree with Esquire Magazine Philippines statement that Solenn Heussaff is the Sexiest Woman Alive?

I know that every Eve would want a sexy body like Solenn's and every Adam would want a girlfriend like Solenn. Some may not agree that she's the Sexiest Woman Alive because of Derek Ramsay's controversial statement before that his then current girlfriend Angelica is yummier than his ex-girlfriend Solenn. Anyway, Solenn may not be the sexiest but I think she is every man's fantasy dream girl. Agree?

MERALCO: Electric Rates To Go Down

MERALCO: Electric Rates ToGo Down

I heard Meralco will have lower rates starting February after the new power supply agreements of the country’s biggest power distributor took effect starting January this year.

According to a news article in Inquirer a highly placed source disclosed that based on initial estimates and previous simulations, power bills might go down by about 19 centavos per kilowatt-hour. This will translate to reductions of roughly P19 for households consuming 100 kWh a month; P38 for those consuming 200 kWh; and about P57 for those consuming 300-kWh.

The source said the new power supply contracts, which would deliver more than 2,300 MW of electricity to Meralco, took effect starting the supply month of January, and would be reflected in the February electricity bills. If this is true then this is really a welcome news to Pinoys who were burdened by high cost of electricity brought about by so many factors including tapped electricity, illegal connections etc.

Meralco signed the contracts, which were already approved last year by the Energy Regulatory Commission, with some of the biggest power players in the country which include San Miguel Energy and South Premiere Power Corp. , both subsidiaries of San Miguel Corp.; SEM-Calaca Power Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Semirara Mining Corp., which owns and operates the 600-MW Calaca coal-fired thermal power plant; and Masinloc Power Partners Co., Ltd of US power giant AES Corp., which owns and operates a 630-MW coal-fired power generating facility in Barangay Bani, Masinloc, Zambales.

The distribution utility earlier said it expected the average blended power rates from its existing and new power supply contracts to reach P5 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) this year and 2014; P5.04 per kWh in 2015; P5.07 per kWH in 2016; P5.08 per kWh in 2017; P5.10 per kWh in 2018; and P5.13 per kWh in 2019. These rates are still lower than the P5.65-per-kWh rate under the company’s transition supply contracts with state-run National Power Corp. (Napocor).

While I am Waiting

While I am Waiting

Learn the purpose of your waiting....

The poster above caught my attention when I saw it on my friend's FB page. So, I decided to share it with you, my dear readers.

It turned out that the poster is about an event for singles this Feb 16, 2013. The speakers for the event are Mr. Joseph Bonifacio and Rica Peralejo-Bonifacio.

This event is open to all! You may register every Sunday after every services at Victory Greenhills Center. You can also register on Feb 16, 2013. Yes, you can bring a date and invite your friends!

Don't get me wrong. I am a devout Catholic since birth and I don't have plans to change my religion as of the moment. I think it won't hurt if I attend this event, right? All of us here on earth are a work in progress and learning a new thing or two from other people is not bad. Who knows? It might be the answer we are waiting and looking for.

Come One, come all!

GUIDELINES: What a police checkpoint should look like

GUIDELINES: What a police checkpoint should look like
What a police checkpoint should look like

A lot of us got scared and puzzled when we saw in the news the
13 people who died including PNP officers inside the two-vehicle convoy riddled with bullets in a shootout (or rubout) incident  at a police checkpoint in Atimonan, Quezon last January 6, 2013. NBI investigation that followed shows that the police involved violated basic Philippine National Police rules governing police checkpoints.

For our guidelines on how a police checkpoint should look like, please refer to the photo above.

According to the PNP operational procedures manual, vehicle inspections at checkpoints are:
  • limited to a visual search.
  • Passengers are not obliged to open the trunk, glove compartment, or bags inside the vehicle.
  • Body searches are not allowed.
The PNP also encourages local government units, civic groups, media and other stakeholders to act as observers and participate in the conduct of checkpoints.

The public is encouraged to report checkpoints that do not follow the PNP requirements by calling the following numbers:

Text PNP to 2920
I-text mo kay Tsip — 09178475757
PNP hotline — 7230401
Emergency hotline — 117
