KYOTO IMPERIAL PALACE GROUNDS

I fell in love with Kyoto Imperial Palace Grounds. I so love all the trees especially those century old trees inside the palace ground. I am a tree hugger and this place is heaven on earth!

We were literally shivering while walking because of the cold wind. The pavement need some improvement because it is full of small rocks. Senior citizens and pwd should be provided with some sort of transportation by the Japanese government. Peace!

So, if you will visit the Kyoto Imperial palace please come prepared and gear up, lace up your walking shoes, embrace the spirit of exploration, and embark on a journey through the Kyoto Imperial Palace grounds. You'll be rewarded with a unique blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty that will leave a lasting impression.

Kyoto Gyoen: More Than Just a Palace (My Unexpected Adventure)

Let's be honest, Kyoto is overflowing with stunning temples and picture-perfect gardens. So when I was planning my trip, the Kyoto Imperial Palace wasn't exactly at the top of my list. "Another palace?" I thought. Boy, was I wrong!

The minute I stepped through the gates of Kyoto Gyoen, a wave of tranquility washed over me. Sure, there's the grand Imperial Palace itself, which you can only see on a tour (definitely booking that next time!), but the surrounding park is what truly stole my heart.

A Park Steeped in History

I wandered along the pathways, each turn revealing a new surprise. One moment I'd be marveling at the ancient Sento Imperial Palace, the next I'd stumble upon a hidden grove teeming with life. Everywhere I looked, history whispered from the moss-covered stones and the meticulously raked gravel.

Finding Serenity in the Gardens

The gardens were pure magic. The Oikeniwa, with its still pond reflecting the sky, felt like a scene straight out of a painting. The Gonaitei, with its perfectly sculpted trees and vibrant koi, offered a moment of pure zen. I spent hours simply meandering through the greenery, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the weight of the city melt away.

A Touch of the Unexpected

Then, there was the Kemari-no-niwa. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon a field dedicated to an ancient Japanese "football" game! The thought of emperors kicking around a leather ball cracked me up, but it also offered a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era.

More Than Just a Palace Grounds

The Kyoto Imperial Palace grounds became so much more than just a palace visit for me. It was a journey through time, a haven of peace, and a reminder of the beauty that lies hidden in unexpected places.

Pro-Tip: Pack a picnic lunch! There are plenty of charming spots within the park to spread out a blanket and enjoy a delicious meal surrounded by nature.

So, if you're planning a trip to Kyoto, don't underestimate the magic of the Kyoto Imperial Palace grounds. It might just surprise you!

Tokyo Twist on a Timeless Icon: Finding Lady Liberty in Odaiba!

Forget everything you think you know about Lady Liberty! This week, I'm taking you on an adventure to a place where the iconic symbol of freedom gets a Tokyo twist – the Statue of Liberty in Odaiba, Japan!

Sure, she might not be the colossal green goddess guarding New York Harbor, but Odaiba's Lady Liberty packs a punch of her own. Standing at a proud 12 meters (about 40 feet), she's a charming mini-me version of the original, but don't let her size fool you.

Here's why this little Lady Liberty is a must-see for any adventurer with a global spirit:

  • Unexpected Delight: Wandering the vibrant streets of Odaiba, brimming with futuristic skyscrapers and trendy attractions, you stumble upon this familiar figure. It's a delightful surprise, a reminder that history and culture can weave themselves into the fabric of even the most modern landscapes.

  • Picture Perfect Tokyo: With the majestic Rainbow Bridge as her backdrop, Odaiba's Lady Liberty offers some of the most unique photo opportunities in Tokyo. Capture the juxtaposition of the classic and the contemporary, the enduring symbol of freedom standing tall against the backdrop of a booming metropolis.

  • Symbol of Friendship: Did you know this petite Lady Liberty is actually a gift from France to Japan, a testament to their enduring friendship? It's a beautiful reminder that the ideals of liberty and hope transcend borders, inspiring connections across the globe.

  • A Smaller Package, Bigger Inspiration: Sometimes, the most powerful things come in smaller sizes. Odaiba's Lady Liberty might not be the original, but her spirit shines just as bright. She's a reminder that the fight for freedom and justice is a continuous journey, no matter where you are in the world.

So, the next time you find yourself in Tokyo, ditch the crowded tourist traps and head to Odaiba. Seek out this little Lady Liberty, stand beneath her torch, and let her spirit of freedom ignite your own wanderlust and inspire you to chase your dreams, no matter how big or small they may seem.

Chasing Cherry Blossoms in Japan: A Dream Come True!

Hey everyone!

For years, we've been obsessed with the idea of seeing cherry blossoms in Japan. Pictures just don't do them justice – the delicate blooms, the vibrant colors, the whole atmosphere...it all seemed so magical. Well, this year we finally made that dream a reality, and let us tell you, it was even more incredible than we ever imagined!

We landed in Tokyo in the dates which supposedly coincides with the published dates of the peak bloom season for many areas as per Japan weather bulletin. Despite the sudden weather change the city was still buzzing with excitement. People were everywhere, strolling under the blossoming trees, having picnics in parks, and snapping photos. The air was filled with a soft, sweet fragrance, and the whole scene felt like something out of a movie.

Our first stop was Ueno Park, a sprawling oasis in the heart of Tokyo. The Somei Yoshino cherry trees, the most common variety, were just starting to bloom because the weather got messed up and it had just snowed the other day so the early blooming cherry blossom were not in it's full glory yet. Their pale pink blossoms formed a canopy overhead, creating a tunnel of delicate beauty. I wandered through the park, mesmerized by the sights and sounds – the chattering crowds, the fluttering petals, the occasional burst of laughter. It was pure joy.

Over the next few days, we ventured to other iconic cherry blossom spots. We marveled at the weeping cherry trees in Nakai. The sole tree we saw has its branches cascading down like a waterfall but the pink Sakura is just starting to bloom. Not yet in it's full glory.

While In Araiyukushi temple in Nakano, the towering stalks of the delicate cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom too. Every location offered a unique perspective on this fleeting spectacle of nature. How we wish the original Sakura bulletin were on schedule. Then, it would have been perfect!

But it wasn't just about the aesthetics. Cherry blossoms in Japan are more than just beautiful flowers; they're a cultural touchstone. The tradition of Hanami, or cherry blossom viewing, is a celebration of spring, renewal, and the impermanence of life. Picnicking under the trees with friends and family, enjoying the beauty of the moment – it's a reminder to slow down and appreciate the simple things.

This trip was an unforgettable experience despite the Sakura bloom delay It wasn't just about ticking something off my bucket list; it was about immersing myself in a different culture and appreciating the beauty of nature. If you've ever dreamed of seeing cherry blossoms in Japan, I say do it!  It's truly a magical experience. And it would be better if all of the Sakura trees were in full bloom. I hope the Japan weather bureau would be more accurate next time around. I wish we would get a FREE all-expenses paid trip to Japan next year when all of the cherry trees is in full bloom!

Do you have any questions about my trip? Have you ever seen cherry blossoms in bloom? Share your experiences in the comments below!

Royal Wax Works: An (Almost) Regal Encounter in Tokyo!

Tokyo isn't exactly known for its palaces and pomp, but on a recent trip, I stumbled upon a touch of British royalty – well, almost! Let me tell you about my hilarious (and slightly surreal) encounter with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge...in wax form, of course!

Nestled in the heart of Odaiba, Madame Tussauds Tokyo is a haven for pop culture and historical figures. As I wandered through the museum, I rounded a corner and came face-to-face (or should I say face-to-wax?) with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Now, I'm not gonna lie – the detail on these figures is incredible. From Kate's perfectly styled hair to William's sharp suit, Madame Tussauds' artists did an amazing job capturing their essence. For a moment, I almost felt a royal aura!

Of course, the experience wouldn't be complete without the obligatory photo op. I struck my best regal pose (think afternoon tea with the Queen level of elegance) and snapped a picture with the future King and Queen (of wax, that is).

This "meeting" was a fun and unexpected highlight of my Tokyo trip. It's a reminder that a little bit of whimsy and a dash of imagination can turn any museum visit into an (almost) royal adventure.

Have you ever had a close encounter with a wax figure? Share your stories in the comments below!

ODAIBA, TOKYO JAPAN: Happiness at Madame Tussauds

OMG, guys! I just had the most fun-filled day at Madame Tussauds Tokyo, and I NEED to share it with all you fellow fangirls and fanboys out there!

First off, let me just say: childhood dreams DO come true!

Remember the era when we have
posters of our idols on our wall growing up? Yeah, well, I practically got to hang out with them all today!

finally meet Jackie Chan face to face! He happens to be my childhood idol because of his funny antics in his martial arts movies.

I remember going to his gym in Hong Kong whenever we went on vacation there. My Papa Vito is such a good dad because he would accompany me to Jackie Chan's gym and inquire if Jackie was there. I was dreaming of having a snapshot or even to get a glimpse of him. Unfortunately, he was so busy and was always out! Finally, in Tokyo Japan we did some high kicks together (well, I attempted some, haha).

Next off is Michael Jackson! I moonwalked right next to him (okay, maybe just shuffled awkwardly) Ha ha ha 🤣

Then, I got all cultured, posing for Michael Angelo as the Mona Lisa except that I had a giant, cheesy grin.

The music legends were next! Madonna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga - slay queens unite! We belted out some (questionable) karaoke together.

And speaking of legends, Bruce Lee was also there! We exchanged fighting stances (again, mostly me flailing around, but hey, the spirit was there!).

Of course, it wasn't all action and pop stars. I got to channel my inner Audrey Hepburn with a classic pose, then went full-on Captain Jack Sparrow with Johnny Depp. ‍☠️

Even royalty wasn't off limits! I rubbed elbows (virtually, of course) with Prince William and Kate Middleton and even got to sat at the Queen of England's throne!!!

And let's not forget the history makers! Sharing a moment with Nelson Mandela and President Obama was truly humbling.

Finally, I got a little taste of Japan with Prime Minister Abe (hope I didn't bow incorrectly!).

This wasn't just a trip to a wax museum, it was a journey through my fangirl fantasies!

Seriously, if you're ever in Tokyo, Madame Tussauds is a MUST. You might not get to hold an Oscar or become president, but you can definitely get the perfect Instagram pic with your idols!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go rewatch all the movies, listen to all the music, and maybe (just maybe) try to recreate some of those epic poses.

Who are your ultimate fangirl/fanboy icons? Let me know in the comments, and maybe we can fangirl together on the next adventure!

Tokyo Tech Talk: A Glimpse into the Future - Translation Screens Take Over Japan!

Hey everyone, and welcome back to my blog! Today, I want to talk about something truly fascinating that I recently encountered in Japan: instantaneous translation screens.

Imagine this: you're a tourist in Tokyo, lost and confused. You approach an information counter, but you don't speak a word of Japanese. Suddenly, a transparent display whirs to life, translating the conversation between you and the staff member in real-time! Sounds like science fiction, right? Well, guess what? It's happening right now in Japan!

These innovative screens, developed by Toppan Holdings, are popping up all over the place. I saw them at Keikyu's stations in Haneda Airport and Shinagawa, as well as in hotels and even retail counters. It's incredible how these seemingly invisible displays can bridge the language gap so effortlessly.

Here's what makes them so cool:

Transparency: The displays are crystal clear, allowing you to see the person you're talking to without any obstruction.

Real-time translation: No more waiting for clunky translations! These screens translate sentences as they're spoken, making communication smooth and efficient.

Widespread adoption: It's not just a one-off experiment. Seeing these screens in various locations hints at a future where language barriers are a thing of the past.

Now, this technology is still in its early stages. There might be limitations in terms of language variety or capturing complex nuances. But the potential is undeniable. Imagine a world where travelers can explore any country with confidence, where businesses can cater to a global audience with ease.

This is just the beginning, folks. Japan's translation screens are a glimpse into a future where communication is truly borderless. And honestly, I can't wait to see what comes next!

What are your thoughts on this technology? Have you encountered anything similar in your travels? Share your experiences in the comments below!

Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya Starbucks Branch

Have you ever wonder how it feels to drink your morning coffee inside an antique house in Kyoto Japan?

We dropped by in Starbucks for our much needed caffeine fix one rainy day. The Starbucks branch in Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya was a 100-year-old traditional house converted into a coffee shop. Boy, was I bowled over by the uniqueness of this cafe. The creaking floors added warmth to this Centenarian building. We are all aware that the upkeep of an old building is a great challenge because it is both an art and a science.

The shop is located in Ninenzaka, a popular street that leads to the World Heritage-listed Kiyomizudera Temple. The unique features of this tatami-floored Starbucks Coffee store took ten years before it debuted on June 30, 2017.

The Starbucks project team wanted to create a "one-of-a-kind shop that conveys the culture and history of Kyoto more than ever before."

However, it wasn't an easy feat. Finding the perfect place was more complicated than expected since most traditional Japanese buildings are small and cannot fit a colossal coffee shop. Moreover, reforming an old building was going to be a challenge.

Even after a building was selected, turning it into a shop while complying with regulations wasn't easy. The Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya shop was only completed with cooperation from local governments.

Are you like me who love taking photographs even inside the John?

I took the photo above inside the comfort room of Manila Hotel's Champagne Room 🍾  when we attended a wedding there.

Twin Lakes Lobby at Christmas Time

We dropped by Twin Lakes Hotel in Tagaytay and had a free taste of their Free Puto Bungbung.

I love Christmas time because the various hotels here in the Philippines decorate their lobbies with wonderful Christmas ornaments and even offer freebies for guests and even to non-guests alike.

Japan

Japan is one of my dream destinations. So imagine my happiness when that dream finally came into reality!

The language barrier is real but because of the latest technology such as google lens translation everything went smoothly.

Japan culture is very Filipino in my own opinion. At such a young age, Japanese kids are taught how to be prim and proper. Most of them if not all are very polite. They even go out of their way to show you the way to whatever it is that you asked them about.

For sure, we will be coming back for more.

Merry Christmas everyone

Kinkakuji Temple in Kyoto Japan

Rokuon-ji which is better known as Kinkakuji 金閣寺 or Golden Pavilion is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. The golden temple was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will it became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death in 1408. Kinkakuji was the inspiration for the similarly named Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion), built by Yoshimitsu's grandson, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, on the other side of the city a few decades later.

Kinkakuji is an impressive structure built overlooking a large pond, and is the only building left of Yoshimitsu's former retirement complex. It has burned down numerous times throughout its history including twice during the Onin War, a civil war that destroyed much of Kyoto; and once again more recently in 1950 when it was set on fire by a fanatic monk. The present structure was rebuilt in 1955.

SABAH MALAYSIA

My brother and I went on a river cruise at Sabah in Malaysia. We were able to spot the proboscis Monkeys at their natural habitat. We learned that they eat leaves and fruits. Such a healthy lifestyle indeed. No wonder the male proboscis monkeys have several female partners because they live long and has up to 6 partners all at the same time. They live like a king.

I passes by this iconic landmark in Quezon City and España everyday.  This location is often labeled as Kilometer Zero because it is the gateway to the different parts of the Metro.  Pasig is a few minutes away, as well as Makati, Manila and other places.

Crosswinds Tagaytay Lush Forest

Breathtaking view of a pine tree forest make Crosswinds Tagaytay one of the premier destinations in the South.

This A Swiss-inspired lifestyle can now be savored just a few hours away from the bustling heart — and intense heat — of Metro Manila. You don't need to board a long-haul flight to Switzerland; instead, all you have to do is drop by Tagaytay, where the enchanting Crosswinds Tagaytay beckons with its one-of-a-kind Swiss-inspired lifestyle.  This exclusive enclave is tucked away on the face of the lush, sweeping natural hills of Tagaytay. The cool breeze, crisp mountain air and earthy scent of pine trees makes us come back for more staycation.

BORACAY BEAUTIFUL SUNSET

Boracay has one of the most beautiful sunset in the Philippines.

Just like me, I bet that you'll never get tired visiting the island of Boracay in the Philippines no matter how many times you've visited already. Why? That's not entirely because of the island's powdery white sand but also because of the stunning view of sunrise and sunset at the white beach area especially at station one.

I love how the skyline at station one changes color from pink  to orange to yellow with the bluish of blue sky in the background.

God's work of art is stunning.
