Journalist’s Creed

Journalist’s Creed

By: Walter William

I believe in the profession of Journalism.

I believe that the public journal is a public trust; that all connected with it are, to the full measure of responsibility, trustees for the public; that acceptance of lesser service than the public service is a betrayal of this trust.
I believe that clear thinking, clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism.

I believe that a journalist should write only what he holds in his heart to be true. I believe that suppression of the news, for any consideration other than the welfare of society, is indefensible.

I believe that no one should write as a journalist what he would not say as a gentleman; that bribery by one’s own pocket book is as much to be avoided as bribery by the pocketbook of another; that individual responsibility may not be escaped by pleading another’s instructions or another’s dividends.

I believe that advertising, news and editorial columns should alike serve the best interests of readers; that a single standard of helpful truth and cleanness should prevail for all; that supreme test of good journalism is the measure of its public service.

I believe that the journalism which succeeds the best-and best deserves success-fears God and honors man; is stoutly independent; unmoved by pride of opinion or greed of power; constructive, tolerant but never careless, self-controlled, patient, always respectful of its readers but always unafraid, is quickly indignant at injustice; is unswayed by the appeal of the privilege or the clamor of the mob; seeks to give every man a chance, and as far as law, an honest wage and recognition of human brotherhood can make it so, an equal chance; is profoundly patriotic while sincerely promoting international good will and cementing world-comradeship, is a journalism of humanity, of and for today’s world.
Written by Walter Williams (1864-1935), founder of the world’s first school of journalism at the University of Missouri. He had contributed toward the promotion of professional journalism than any other person of his time.
I repost this Journalist’s creed of Ethics by Walter William as a guide to every blogger, aspiring and would be bloggers. In today’s modern era, everyone can post or blog whatever thoughts they have or whatever they wanted to say or do, thus they can now be considered as a social media bloggers who writes and gets news and messages across to readers.
Yes, it crossed my mind to make a a blogger’s creed but I am not an authority in the matter so I will just let the blogger authorities to compose a blogger’s creed for all of us. Readers are KING, we don’t owe anything to anyone but our readers.

SANSO: Breton Houses

SANSO: Breton Houses

SANSO: Breton Houses, travelonshoestring, SANSO: Breton Houses Blogger
One of my favorite artist of all times, Sanso creates and presents “Breton Houses” from his imagination and memory. The landscapes view of the ” Breton Houses” with a moon is Sanso’s distinct signature in almost all of his paintings.
A renowned painter, Juvenal Sanso is one of the best-known members of the Philippine Modernist movement. Having graduated from the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines, he is contemporaries with National Artists Victorio Edades, Vicente Manansala, Jose Joya, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, and Napoleon Abueva (his batchmate in UP). His teachers were National Artists Fernando Amorsolo and Guillermo Tolentino.
SANSO: Breton Houses

“Breton Houses” was unveiled last July 27, 2012 and will run until the 3rd of August 2012, at the Archaeology Wing, R2 level of the Power Plant Mall.

SANSO: Breton Houses

This is the second time that I got invited in Sanso’s art exhibit this year. And I sincerely thank my friend Ruby for this wonderful opportunity.

SANSO: Breton Houses

I love the colors used by Sanso on his art works. His paintings was almost sold out when I attended the artist’s reception last July 31, 2012, Tuesday, at the Archaeology Wing, 2nd Floor of the Power Plant Mall.

Breton Houses metaphors for the peace and tranquility he experienced during his stay on the northern coast of France.

The landscapes he paints today are part of his search for the idyllic, a soothing balm for the restless and tired spirit not only of artists but of the human psyche.

In “Breton Houses”, Sanso paints the essence of calmness, painting what every man’s dream of the perfect place should be.

Sanso re-explores the meaning of warmth and comfort that those twenty-four summers have meant for him, creating works based more on those feelings than any actual location. Thus his new works conform to these emotions – of the idyllic place in one’s mind where one goes to relax – rather than a mere photocopy of an existing landscape.
In this way, Sanso remains true to his expressionist ideals—relying on feeling and emotion to guide his steady, gifted hand.
The landscapes on display showed just how far the artist has come in his practice. While elements of his earlier works are certainly there – Breton architecture, the affinity towards the coast, the famous Sanso moon – the calm his newer paintings in this series invokes is reminiscent of his experiments in color that stems from the Moderno series. This makes the new entries of the Breton Houses series more nuanced and complex than Sanso’s earlier works. The search for the idyllic is ever present, but Sanso has injected his experiences since into this series. Paradoxically, the series that initiated his rebirth as an artist was itself reawakened.
A foremost master, Sanso has had a long and stellar career capped by a number of awards and recognition including a King’s Cross of Isabella knighthood from the King of Spain, membership into the Order of Chevalier from the French Government, and a Presidential Medal of Merit awardee from the Republic of the Philippines. His works are represented in the collections of some 40 museums in the world including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institute, the Museum d’ Arte Moderne in Paris, the Rosenwald National Gallery of Washington, and the cultural Center of the Philippines. His collectors include the Rothschild Family, Nelson Rockefeller, Vincent Price, Elsa Schiaparelli, Jean Cocteau and many prominent, American, European and prominent Filipino families.

Kris Aquino Defends PNoy

Kris Aquino on Monday night broke her silence over her brother’s criticism of ABS-CBN News anchor Noli “Kabayan” de Castro and other Filipino journalists during the 25th anniversary party of “TV Patrol.”

Kris Aquino, the younger sister of President Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, who happens to be Noli De Castro’s co-employee at ABS-CBN, tweet her answer to a twitter user who said that you never attack media back.

Here are the screen captures of the said Twitter conversation:

She said she is careful in commenting about the issue. “Prayed before I replied to make sure I don’t tweet the wrong thing. My issues are so trivial in comparison to PNoy,” Kris said.

“PNoy is our president and I do believe the majority of our people feel he’s doing a great job. Maybe he just like anybody else,” she added.

Kris said on Twitter that her brother has the right to defend himself and express his opinion. Freedom of speech is a 2-way street right? quips Kris Aquino on Twitter.

Her brother on Friday night lashed out at de Castro and Philippine media for alleged bias toward negative news reports. Aquino, in his speech at the 25th anniversary celebration of TV Patrol at the Manila Hotel, said he wants a positive spin in news stories and commentaries from ABS-CBN’s flagship primetime news broadcast.

The president specifically vented his ire on de Castro, a veteran TV Patrol anchor and former a vice president of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, for allegedly belitting the gains made by his administration with regard to the sorry state of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.

Aquino also said he was unhappy over criticisms on TV Patrol regarding the National Bureau of Investigation’s recovery of a kidnapped child last June 26.

De Castro has yet to comment on Aquino’s statements. Ging Reyes, head of ABS-CBN’s News and Current Affairs Division (NCAD), said: “Criticism is not a monopoly of journalists and media practitioners. The President had as much right to free speech as every citizen. Ang aming mga mamahayag ay may editorial independence, o kalayaan sa kanilang pagkalap ng balita at paglalahad ng istorya,” Reyes said on TV Patrol Monday. “Ito ang pundasyon ng kredibilidad. Sa mga pagkakataong kinukwestyon ang aming pagiging patas at balanse, mayroon kaming sistema para tugunan ang ganitong reklamo ng manonood,” she added.

TAX For Online Traders and Entrepreneurs

Attention: Online traders and entrepreneurs
The Bureau of Internal Revenue will start going after those who fail to issue electronic invoices to customers this year.
Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares told reporters that online businesses, such as the following:
  • sulit.com.ph
  • e-bay Philippines
  • alibaba.com
  • ayosdito.ph
  • multiply.com
These are just sample businesses that need to be registered with the BIR and should be paying the corresponding taxes.
The tax will cover even those entrepreneurs who use their personal Facebook accounts for business transactions.
“They are all bound by the law to comply with the invoicing requirement. Under the rules, online sellers shall be registered as such to the BIR, and that their electronic invoicing shall likewise be registered either directly to us or a third-party accredited by us”, quips BIR Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares
The electronic invoicing could be availed of through a third party, but such third-party shall be accredited by the BIR. Meaning, private parties could participate and get the necessary accreditation from BIR.
Citing Section 237 of the National Internal Revenue Code, the BIR chief said the bureau need not issue a revenue regulation to implement the law requiring the issuance of receipts and sales invoices for online transactions as well as penalties for non-compliance.

SODERNO: Ultimate Taste Test

SODERNO: Ultimate Taste Test

From its humble beginnings as a ‘taste test’ among friends and neighbors, the Ultimate Taste Test has become a sold-out event drawing in thousands of foodies eager to try the latest food discoveries.
“Many home-based cooks and up-and-coming chefs would send me their dishes and asked if I could review their dishes on my blog. But I just eat all of those food samples!” recounts Anton Diaz, the popular food and travel blogger behind. www.OurAwesomePlanet.com
“Instead of eating all those samples, I thought not only of sharing these dishes with my readers but also giving them an opportunity to rate these dishes as well. That was how the Ultimate Taste Test was born.”
“In fact, many of the pioneer vendors of Mercato Centrale – the weekend food market that we organized along with partners RJ and Vanessa Ledesma and Gary and Janice Villanueva – were winners of previous Ultimate Taste Test.” Anton adds. “They include Dulcelin Gourmet specialties, Supreme Brazo, Angus Beef Tapa, Risa Chocolates, and Merry Moo Premium Ice Cream.”

The latest edition of the Ultimate Taste Test was recently held at Soderno Food Market in Molito Commercial Center, Alabang much to the delight of Southern-based food enthusiasts. Each attendee received a ‘passport’ where they rated the food and drinks samples of all the participating food entrepreneurs, which included innovative and specialty dishes from Margie’s Paella Negra, Frisch’s Liquor Ice Cream, Hizon’s premium flavored sorbets, Nina’s Grill’s fried pork and chicken isaw, Carlo’s Kitchen’s crunchy pork belly, Sober Club’s mocktails, Mama Lout’s Panzarotti, Merry Moo’s bacon chocolate ice cream and more.
The top five winners of the latest Ultimate Taste Test will not only be featured in the www.OurAwesomePlanet.com blog, but they will also be given a free month’s stay in any of the Mercato Centrale-managed food markets which include Soderno in Alabang, Distrito in Makati, Mezza Norte in Quezon City and Mercato Centrale in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
For interested chefs, bakers and food entrepreneurs who are interested to participate in the next Ultimate Taste Test, please contact rache@diaz.ph or 09175318949.

VIRAL PHOTO: TEXT SCAMMER ASKING FOR A LOAD

I remember a family friend who got scammed by this modus operandi. She thought it was her daughter who works overseas who texted her and asked for a load. She told us that my kinakapatid(J) changed her international roaming number and they will put a little loading business. It turned out to be a text scammer. Tita R lost Php 5,000 worth of load. It was her hard earned money. I pity her. But what can I do?
So when I saw this viral photo, I really laughed when the text scammer got a dose of his/ her own medicine. Ha ha! It serves them right. I wish the police/ NBI caught them and put them in jail for fooling people and stealing other people’s load.
If ever you receive a similar text message, give them a ride so they will stop fooling people.
