Oral Vaccine
To all the mother's out there! If you care for the over-all being of your child, vaccinate your newborns against rota virus. The vaccines must be initially administered orally among newborns six to 12 weeks after birth while the succeeding dose is given after four weeks.
The inclusion of rota virus vaccination in the Department of Health’s (DOH) Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) is good decision for the children of the Philippines.

It is undeniable that special attention must be given to the health of our children, particularly because many of them are continuously and needlessly suffering from diseases that are either preventable or treatable.
Diarrhea is a preventable disease. if it will be reduced or eradicated, this will contribute to the reduction of under-five mortality in the Philippines.

A person with rotavirus diarrhea often excretes large amounts of virus, which can spread readily through contaminated hands. Rotavirus, a hearty virus that survives easily in the environment, can also be transmitted through contaminated objects, air, water, or food.
Treatment
Neither antibiotics nor other drugs can cure rotavirus.
The only treatment consists of preventing dehydration by providing fluids and salts until the disease runs its course. In the most serious cases, frequent vomiting makes oral rehydration ineffective.
Children who cannot keep down fluids urgently need intravenous fluids, or they risk dying from dehydration.

Rotarix - A two-dose, orally-administered vaccine that offers protection against rotavirus to infants. Rotarix is indicated for the active immunisation of infants from the age of 6 weeks for prevention of gastro-enteritis due to rotavirus infection. Rotarix is made available by GlaxoSmithKline.
An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
Preventing serious disease in the first place is the best way to protect children in poor countries.

good thing that DOH include this vaccine because it is so expensive. i tink i spent 6k for this vaccine (2 vaccine).
Thanks for sharing. This is very informative. I just hope that the DOH will be able to implement the vaccination program nationwide. I hope that whatever budget was allocated for this program really go to the program and not in anyone's pockets. Whew,finally... after 3 attempts to post this comment!

I'm hopeful that this will be right away be implemented. This kind of vaccination for Rotavirus is badly needed by those newly born or infants in order for them to survive and live as what the Lord has predestined them to do. This will get through the entire system of society. So be it!

After I read your post, I wondered if my little cousin had this because before I left Zambo, one my younger cousins was having diarrhea :-s He was rushed to the hospital and we were really worried about him :( Good thing he's fine now..

If this is given for free by the Department of Health a lot of children would benefit and will be spared from that annual count of mortality rate.
If masiraan ako ng bait and have a baby again, definitely, this will be a must.
Thanks for sharing this.. I have no idea about this vaccine. I have to ask my sister-in-law if my little niece already have this. If not, I will encourage her to make it. Diarrhea is not a joke. Especially for infants and toddlers.

Tatess I shared this info because I know that a lot of Filipino mothers are not yet aware that their children needed this vaccine. The Philippines is one of the first in ASIA to include this in the DOH expanded epi which is a good news for the children in the Philippines po. Swerte mo po nasa us po kayo mas protected rights ng children to live dyan. Sa Pilipinas minsan parang walang paki ang gobyerno. Nagalak nga po ako na at may vaccine na po na ang benipisyo ay pangkalahatan.
