MANILA, Philippines – State workers in Manila can ride the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit for free tomorrow (September 29).
Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Francisco Duque said that the free rides are offered in partnership with the Department of Transportation and Communications, in line with the celebration of the 111th Philippinde Civil Service Anniversary this month.
Government workers can take the trains for free from 7:00am to 9:00am and 5:00pm to 7:00pm They would have to present their government IDs to avail of the free ride. “This is a good way of showing our appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices of public servants,” Duque said.
With the theme “Championing RACE: Public Service Excellence at Full Speed”, the anniversary celebration enjoins state workers nationwide to respond to the President’s call for reform -– to tread the “tuwid na daan” -– and aim for Responsive, Accessible, Courteous and Effective public service.
Various activities were conducted, which included a fun run led by Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, and a government chorale competition where the National Power Chorale of the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) emerged as champion.
SM Department Store held a special sale in all its branches nationwide, where government workers were treated to up to 10 percent discount. Contests on essay writing, book cover design and photography were also organized.
About 1.25 million commuters take the LRT and MRT trains every day. The MRT line runs along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare, from Taft Avenue in Pasay to North Avenue in Quezon City.
The LRT line 1 spans along Taft Avenue from Baclaran in Parañaque, to Roosevelt in Quezon City, while Line 2 runs along Aurora Boulevard from Recto, Manila, to Santolan, Marikina.
